There was a Josiah Ranger who married a Hannah Larking on October 15 1724 in West Peckham Kent.
This same Josiah described as a widower of Sevenoaks, Kent, married a Judith Edwards a spinster on August 21 1738 in Chevening, Kent.
It could be that this Josiah is the father of Michael, not proved. It is certain that at the very least he is a close relative.
It is strange that so far we have not found any brothers or sisters of Michael or children of Josiah's marriages. This could be an indicator that Josiah is the father. Josiah may have been a dissenter (a member of a non conformist church for which records are scarce) and so his children would not have been baptised in a C of E church. All speculative.
