The census of 1861 shows him as living in Cage Green Tonbridge aged 32 a labourer and born in Wrotham. The 1881 census shows him born in Hadlow a gardener and living in 12 Fosse Road Tonbridge, his wife is shown as Sarah Jane and was born in Uckfield. Fathers name was William. Alfred was baptized in Hadlow on March 16 1828. Burial reference 1812 Map square 20 Section C Folio L86. The 1891 census shows Alfred and Jane living 13 Hawden Road Tonbridge with four of their children Ada aged 26, Albert aged 18, Ann aged 12 and Ernest aged 7.
